Newcastle is a city of contrasts as far as property is concerned reflecting its cultural and social life and it’s worth having a thorough look around if you can. Prices are lower than you would expect to pay in London or in some of the other big cities so you will probably be able to afford a rented property in some of Newcastle’s most popular and lively areas.

The most popular locations in Newcastle are around the well-established areas of Town Moor, Jesmond and Gosforth and the new developments on the Quayside. The areas to be avoided include the Westend, Byker, Benwell and the Eastend.

In the centre of the city, there are modern apartments on the fashionable and young Quayside. If you are keen to live right in the city centre and amongst the thick of Newcastle’s nightlife definitely have a look around here.

However, the real beauty of living in Newcastle is that there are plenty of affordable living areas on the edge of the city centre and within walking distance of most of the places you’re likely to want to get to. Town Moor lies on the northern edge of the city centre. The parkland provides acres of green space in the heart of the city.

Backing onto Town Moor from different angles are Jesmond and Gosforth. Both are very popular, lively areas with high percentages of student inhabitants. Jesmond has a lot of fashionable bars, normally packed full of young professionals and students. Both areas are within walking distance of the city centre and well linked by the Metro, so they are both really good places to live.

When you start looking for a house or flat to rent, your first port of call should be Newcastle’s numerous letting agents. Local newspapers, including The Evening Chronicle, The Journal and the Herald & Post, are also a really helpful source of information. However, the most important thing to remember when you are looking for a rented property in Newcastle is to move quickly because there is huge competition for flats and houses in the most popular areas.
